Ozarks National Golf Course Showcases The Beauty of Nature)

Architect Duo Coore & Crenshaw Partner With Noted Conservationist Johnny Morris to Create Ozarks National, a New World-Class 18-Hole Course, Vaulting Big Cedar Lodge into the Global Market as a Must-Play Golf Destination

RIDGEDALE, MO. (January 25, 2018)Big Cedar Lodge is redefining the perception of golf in the Ozarks as it unveils Ozarks National, a new 18-hole course designed by architects Bill Coore & Ben Crenshaw, in fall 2018. Designed in partnership with Johnny Morris, noted conservationist and founder of Bass Pro Shops, this new course will serve as a gateway to the Ozarks National Forest and cement Big Cedar Lodge’s place as America’s next great golf destination.

“This has been an incredible piece of land to work with and the vision behind the entire golf experience at Big Cedar Lodge fits perfectly into our approach to build natural golf courses that connect people to the local landscape,” said Bill Coore, co-principal of Coore & Crenshaw.

Ozarks National will showcase golf in the manner in which it was intended. Measuring 7,036 yards from the back tees, the course represents the terrain of the Ozarks with incredible vistas and beautiful views. Ozarks National features strategic bunkering and slopes that enhance the player experience. The 18-hole layout features challenging carries and a variety of visually appealing approach shots that are highlighted by the native habitat. The course also includes interesting features, such as a 400-foot wooden beam and plank bridge, which connects the tee box and fairway of the 13th hole that stands 60-feet above a flowing creek.

Like nearly all of Coore & Crenshaw’s designs, Ozarks National will be walkable and capable of hosting tournaments on the PGA TOUR, PGA TOUR Champions, USGA and PGA of America schedules. The course is adjacent to the Mountain Top Course designed by Gary Player, a 13-hole, par-3 masterpiece that opened in summer 2017.

“Bill and Ben have done a masterful job of finding the right paths along the ridgelines, oaks and walnut trees to create eye-popping views and connections with nature,” said Morris. “The idea behind this course, as well as the other golf experiences at Big Cedar Lodge, is to celebrate our human connection with nature, bringing people together in a way that also educates them about the history of the Ozarks and the game of golf.”

Already a top-travel destination, Big Cedar Lodge has made a name for itself in the golf world with the 2014 re-opening of Top of the Rock, a Jack Nicklaus Signature design, and the renovation of Buffalo Ridge Springs, redesigned by Tom Fazio and recently ranked as the “Best Golf Course You Can Play in Missouri” by GOLF Magazine. The property is advancing Morris’ vision for a world-class outdoor resort that combines a shared appreciation for conservation and a premier golf experience through Big Cedar Golf: Nature’s Finest.

In 2017, Johnny Morris and golf icon Gary Player unveiled the Mountain Top Course – a 13-hole par-3 masterpiece that features dramatic limestone rock formations and some of the most breathtaking views in the region. Mountain Top will join Top of the Rock and Buffalo Ridge Springs as courses played during the 2018 Bass Pro Shops Legends of Golf at Big Cedar Lodge.

In 2019, projects crafted by Morris and 79-time PGA Tour winner Tiger Woods will be revealed. Payne’s Valley, a 19-hole course built to showcase the region’s natural beauty and to honor the late, local golf legend Payne Stewart, is the first public golf course in the United States by Woods’ TGR Design.
